Texas Climate Jobs Project Responds to DOE's $1.2 Billion Gulf Coast Hydrogen Hub Award, Calls for Strong Labor Protections
AUSTIN– In response to the Department of Energy's announcement of an award commitment for the Gulf Coast Hydrogen Hub—led by HyVelocity (HyV), Texas Climate Jobs Project issued the following statement:
"In light of the Department of Energy's recent announcement to award funding to the Hyvelocity Hub, Texas labor unions will use all options available to ensure that any jobs created by this program are the best jobs possible for working people. We expect taxpayer dollars to be used responsibly. We have been clear that we expect safe, high-quality, family sustaining jobs with enforceable labor agreements and a just transition for oil and gas workers on these projects. We will not stop until this is the reality for working Texans.”
About the Texas Climate Jobs Project
The Texas Climate Jobs Project (TCJP) launched in July 2021 and is a coalition of Texas labor unions from across Texas united to fight climate change and reverse income inequality in the country's energy capital. The coalition advocates for long-term solutions to these intertwined crises by pushing state and local lawmakers to tap the state’s massive renewable energy potential and create millions of new family-sustaining union jobs.
